Who We Are

BALSK is a Non-Governmental Organization registered in the year 1987 under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. It is headquartered in Islampur of Nalanda district with experienced full-time, part-time and volunteers to manage its different activities. BALSK started working in Islampur block in Nalanda district in 1987 and during the course of time it has extended its activities to Nalanda, Gaya, Nawada and Supaul districts in Bihar.

Its Primary Objective is to strengthen the marginalized communities and promote sustainable development. BALSK carries out its interventions ireespective of religion, caste, creed, gender and ethnicity.

The mission of the organization is to work for a just society. The organization has undertaken different projects supported by different govt. and foreign donor agencies. The main donor agencies with which BALSK works during its course of work are-  Misereor, Germany, CASA, Kolkata, Pathfinder International, USA, Basic Needs, UK, DFID, UK, Cord-Aid, The Netherlands, UK, Trickle Up Program, USA and Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi.

Introduction

Genesis

A group of youth having strong faith in the ideologies of Shri Jayprakash Narayan established BALSK in 1982. These youths were the part of the youth wing called “Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Vahini”. Initially, the group worked as a community volunteers for years with continuing efforts for community empowerment. In the initial stages, formation and strengthening of the village level institutions was the basics of the intervention. BALSK got registered as a NGO under the Society Registration Act in 1987 and under the FCR Act in 1988.
